Technology And The Environment

Throughout most of the world, there is some form of dependence on technology. While technology has been of good assistance in multiple countries, technology contains multiple drawbacks as well, and has fatal drawbacks on the environment. In this essay, I will be writing about how technology damages both the environment and cultural customs. After I write about both topics, I will write about the contrasts between a ecologically-based culture and individual lifestyles. To begin, I will write about how technology harms the environment. The term used for how technology and other materials effect the environment is known as "environmental deficit".

The term "environmental deficit" states that over a long period of time, the environment will slowly become damaged by individuals who discard objects over a short period of time. This issue must be confronted for three individual reasons. The first reason is that how the environment operates is a social problem due to the population's consumption of materialism and the use of technology. The second reason is that damage to the environment is unintentional, and that we are oblivious to the damage we cause to the environment. The third and last reason is that the damage done to the environment can be repaired to a certain degree.

Next, I will write about how technology can damage our cultural traditions. Throughout the entire world, the countries that damage the environment are those of higher income. Examples of these countries include the United States Of America and Canada. However, the country that is of most concern due to its high use of electricity is the United States Of America. The desire for electricity is so high in the United States that it goes beyond the amount of electricity available, which inflicts damage to the environment. That is one of many examples of how harm to the environment can damage the United States culture.

To expand more on this issue, the United States seeks comfort from materialism. Americans feel that, through materialism, lives can be improved. Environmentalists call this theory, "the logic of growth". However, people who operate under this theory do still realize the ramifications of their conduct towards the environment. Environmentalists state, however, that this pattern of thinking is incorrect. There are three reasons why this is the case.

The first reason why the logic of growth theory is false is because people who operate underneath this theory believe that the availability for natural resources are infinite, which is not the case. The second and last reason is because the improvement of technology and other objects not only do not enrich the lives of individuals, but also cause fatal harm to the environment. Therefore, environmentalists do not believe the logic of growth is valid. The next and last topic I will write about is the contrast between our current lifestyle and a ecologically-based lifestyle. What would change with an ecologically-based lifestyle compared to our current lifestyle is by not only providing a limited amount of necessary needs for these current times, but predicting what we might need in the future. Also, reducing the amount of waste and stabilizing the human population would also improve the environment.

To conclude this entire essay, our environment is in critical condition. However, with just the right strategies, we can reverse some if not most of the damage caused to the environment.
