Prejudice And Discrimination

In our society multiple kinds of minorities come face-to-face with the issue of Prejudice. The term called "Prejudice" is known as a prejudgement, which is a type of attitude that establishes with the individual before the conversing of the type of people they feel suspicious about, even before it occurs. Positive and Negative versions of Prejudice also exist. Both versions of Prejudice are interlaced with social class, gender, religion, age and sexual or political orientations. Prejudice is also connected with stereotypes, while the most extreme version of Prejudice is Racism. Europeans also chose to use racism to condone the commonly violent colonizing of the majority of Latin America, Asia and Africa.

The next part of this essay is known as "Discrimination". Discrimination is based around the cruel ways of treating multiple types of people. While prejudice is based around personality, discrimination is based around initiated treatment. Discrimination can be both negative and positive to the individual, in comparison to Prejudice. Prejudice and Discrimination back-up one another, and create a fatal cycle that hurts minorities. An example of how prejudice can transition into discrimination is that if white police officers assume that the majority of african americans are main initiative behind crime, they will begin racial profiling and put black people under arrest.

In conclusion. our only hope is that we find solutions to please individuals of all categories.

Social Construction Of Race

Throughout the entire world, we classify human beings under a category known as "Race". The race of a person varies depending on what country and continent they live in. Even though we classify people within this spectrum, but the truth is that race is not of skin color, but rather, a category of social construction. While society defines this as important, race has nothing in comparison to being human. Every individual human being around the world are of the biological species "Homo Sapiens", which is a Latin term that translates to "thinking person". Homo Sapiens originated in Africa at an estimate of two-hundred and fifty-thousand years ago.

The construction of society's categories in race are based upon differences in individuals that are physical, and are categorized by physical differences which were formed over thousands of years in residence within different regions in the world. The term known as "Race" was first used by Europeans in the late 1500's. However, in 1800's scientists who were European invented three different larger categories which they used to classify human beings. While many classifications were established  over long points of time, those who claim that the categorizing known as race can be deceptive and cause discrimination from human being to human being. Many people wonder why the racial categories still exist, even though they are false. The answer is that a small amount of sociologists debate that the division of human beings into categories of race is mainly a tactic to give dominance of one individual over another.

To conclude this essay, less and less people will notice one another in the strict categories of race.

Political Perspectives Of Poverty in The United States

In our society, there is a small amount of those who are the poorest, and may be responsible for their own poverty. When the percentage of income that is required for a secure and peaceful living isn't obtained, people who are poor struggle in multiple ways. There are three different viewpoints for how those who are in poverty are responsible for their own financial results. The three points of view are the Conservative point of view, the  Liberal point of view, and the Radical Left point of view.  In the conservative point of view, the individuals who are near to complete poverty are only a small percentage. While conservatives try to state that the method to eliminating poverty by addressing the individual's responsibilities, Liberals have a completely different point of view.

Liberals, however, believe that assisting the poor is a task for every individual. According to the Liberal point of view, there is a social component that applies mostly to poverty than the individual's own decision throughout life. The majority of people who became poor had that result not because of personal choices, but mainly the conduct of society. However, Radicals leaning to the left believe in their own strategy for eliminating poverty. The Radical Left do accept and condone the Liberal viewpoint that the conduct of society is the result of poverty. However, what makes the Radical Left view the results of poverty differently from Liberals is that they state that the Capitalistic conduct of society is synchronized with the emergence of poverty.

For the conclusion of my essay, The Political alignments of both the Left and Right shows the views of all three political strategies, including the Radical Left.

*I stated in one of my previous essays that these essays are based upon the text-book, "Social Problems", which was published in 2006. However, I examined the text-book again, and it was updated for 2008.

Responsibility Of Poverty in The United States

While people can be born into poverty, there are ways people drift into poverty. There are five different aspects which can equal poverty, which I will explain in this essay. This analysis was taken in 2005, which revealed that thirty-seven million individuals, in 12.6 percent of the society, were shown to be poor. However, in 1960, poverty was up to twenty-two percent. Although, however, it managed to get decreased down to an estimated percentage of 12 by the mid-1970's. Later on, the statistics varied throughout the years.

The first aspect of drifting into poverty is age. Children have a high chance living in poverty, and are thirty-five percent  of United States' more poor population. An analysis taken in 2005 exposed thirteen million young people that were younger than eighteen were living in houses with income. Even to a extremely fatal level, nearly half of this age range reside in families that produce an income that's not even half of the standard poverty income, which is nine-thousand dollars or less. From the previous generation, the elderly had a higher population of poor income people, but poverty has a different trait today.

The second aspect is race. The majority of people in the United States stereotype African American or Hispanics as being poor. The truth however, is that white people are more poor as opposed to black people who are poor. There is also a higher amount of non-Hispanic as opposed to Hispanic people living in poverty, but the truth us that the percentage of minorities that are in Poverty is larger than white people. African Americans, Hispanics and Asian Americans have a higher chance of being poor than white people.

The third aspect of poverty is Gender. Women have a higher chance of drifting into poverty, which is 61 percent of all poor adults in the United States, while men are the remaining 39 percent. Due to the large amount of poverty distance between men and women, sociologists have established the phrase "feminization of poverty". From an analysis in 1960, it was discovered that married couples had a chance of drifting into poverty.  The difference in today than 1960 is that single mothers children with an absent husband are 53 percent of the poor population, while single men take up only nine percent. The fourth aspect is Family Pattern. When individuals are married, income increases by a large degree and reduces the chances of being poor.

5.1 percent of married people are in poverty, as opposed to 17.9 percent of single men, and then 24.1 of single women. The last and fifth aspect is Region. The authentic percentage of poverty changes from state to state. The Poverty percentage in new Hampshire is 5.6 percent, 6.8 in New Jersey, a large percentage of 21.3 in the District of Columbia and 20.1 percent in Mississippi. The southern and western have a higher amount of poverty, along with the midwest and northeast.  While people associate poverty with urban environments, the truth is that rural environments are at risk of poverty more so than urban environments.

To conclude this essay, I will say that poverty is harmful to our society in more ways than one. Therefore, a change must be made.

Social Construction

In our society, social problems are constructed. This emerges when people claim various fragments of our society as unfavorable, and therefore require a change. What is considered unfavorable in our society changes throughout time. In fact, some issues intensify over time. An example of this is when in 1935, lack of employment and a bad economy were major concerns. However, in 2006, the war centered in Iraq was a large concern.

Another statistic shows that homicide and the use of automobiles are harmful to our society. Homicide is stated to be very damaging to our society due to the estimated amount of 16,500 people being killed in the United States of America each year. Studies have shown that the use of automobiles are more harmful to society, but are not completely recognized as a social problem. However, studies expose that using cell phones while driving automobiles results in more than one million deaths and even the lives of several. Some claims have been addressed that communicating on a cellphone in the midst of driving is a social problem, but the banning of the action has not been initiated.

The use of MP3 Players among young audiences are not a concern. In the future, however, younger audiences using MP3 Players may experience issues such as hearing loss and social isolation, which may result in more fatal problems overtime. Another social issue in the construction category is that in the year 1900, a ratio of nine out of ten full-grown men worked to produce income. However, women were prohibited to vote, and therefore felt they had no other choice but to perform housework and raise their children. As of this day, however, these is more awareness of gender inequality.

One last example to state is school shootings. Why many consider this a smaller issue is that a smaller amount have died from this type of situation, as opposed to the number of annual deaths from being stung by bees. For my concluding statement, it is best to not only examine the more clearly stated statement, but smaller less known sociological claims as well. In the end, this results in the construction of social problems. Even the more well-known and more statements play a role in the construction of social problems.

*The essay is based off of  a textbook published in 2006. I apologize for any outdated information.

Political Spectrum

In our society, people align themselves with either two political sides. The one side is Conservative, while the other side is Liberal. In between Conservative and Liberal, there are those who are slightly, but not entirely Conservative or Liberal. However, in between both the slightly Conservative and slightly Liberal are ones who are in between both. The side in between is known as, "Middle Of The Road", which have political viewpoints from both sides. On opposing sides of Conservative and Liberal, there are extremely Conservative and extremely Liberal. Individuals who don't know where they align politically are stated as, "Don't Know".

In the states of Massachusetts and Minnesota, Liberal candidates are commonly elected for political roles in those states. While in the states of Indiana and Texas it is more common for Conservative candidates to be elected political roles in those states. Political characteristics transition in our society, from being more liberal in the 1960's to being more conservative in the 1980's.  According to history Jewish Americans and African Americans have Liberal political preferences. Asian Americans, however, have more Conservative political preferences.

People with Conservative viewpoints look for archived wisdom passed on by endless generations that have found solutions for issues that they are facing in the present.  Liberals, however believe people should have independence from the past to make solutions, and guidelines on how to live. Conservatives favor the traditions of family and religion, while liberals favor the respect of an individual's rights and equality within society. People who prefer extreme viewpoints in either a Conservative or Liberal style want to change society in a strong way to establish simplicity. To conclude this essay,  conservatives believe in tradition, while liberals believe in adjusting society for a change. Therefore, one must choose where they reside politically.
